Spikenard smells deeply earthy and mossy, heavy and dark: a scent from the root, not from the flower.
Steam-distilled from the roots of the spikenard plant from the Himalayas. The scent is unusual: earthy, slightly animalic, with a woody depth. It is one of those oils you either like straight away or only understand in a blend.
How to use it
- In the diffuser: 1–2 drops, best rounded off with Wild Orange or Frankincense.
- As a base note in your own blends, used very sparingly.
- Diluted on the skin: 1 drop in a teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil.
- One drop on a piece of wood or felt in the decorative bowl.
Good to know
- 5 mL in a dark glass bottle with dropper insert: at around 20 drops per millilitre, that is about 100 drops.
- Never apply undiluted to the skin; as a rule of thumb, 1–2 drops in a teaspoon of carrier oil.
- Keep away from eyes, ears and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children.
